Induction Category: Builder

Danny Minogue is recognized for his transformative leadership in Canadian skiing, most notably as chairman of Alpine Canada Alpin (ACA) from 2011 to 2015. He assumed the role during a period of significant crisis following the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, when ACA was grappling with a medal drought in alpine events, the loss of major sponsors, fractured athlete trust and governance challenges.

Rather than serving as a figurehead, Minogue acted as the organization’s de facto executive leader. He was deeply involved in day-to-day decision-making, rebuilt the leadership team, stabilized finances and restored organizational credibility.

Under his leadership, ACA reinstated the Canadian Alpine Development Team, which played a key role in the progression of athletes such as Jack Crawford, Valérie Grenier and Cameron Alexander. Governance was overhauled with the introduction of the organization’s first national board skills matrix, ensuring professional oversight and pan-Canadian representation.

Minogue’s tenure also coincided with a return to podium success. At the 2014 Olympic Winter Games, Canada won three medals, including two in ski cross and the nation’s first alpine Olympic medal in 20 years. He also established the Minogue Award of Excellence, an annual $10,000 bursary recognizing leadership and community contribution among Development Team athletes.

Beyond governance, Minogue was a trusted mentor to numerous elite athletes, including Erik Guay, Alex Bilodeau, Julien Cousineau, Marie-Michèle Gagnon and Valérie Grenier, offering guidance, confidence and financial support at critical points in their careers. He also supported the transition of alpine skiers into ski cross, contributing to Olympic success for Kelsey Serwa, Brady Leman and Britt Phelan.

His leadership was defined by vision, innovation and resilience. Minogue is widely credited with making ACA more athlete-centred, elevating athlete voices in governance, ensuring transparent and fair selection standards, and expanding opportunities for underfunded athletes, women and para-athletes. He is consistently described as trustworthy, respectful, responsible and community-minded, a leader who acted in service of the sport rather than personal recognition.

Following his formal tenure, Minogue has remained actively involved in Canadian skiing. He continues to raise funds for national programs, mentor young athletes, support post-competition transitions and lead philanthropic initiatives within the Mont-Tremblant ski community. His legacy is viewed as central to the revival and sustained success of Canadian ski racing.
