Kate Pace. Alpine Canada Alpin.

Born and raised in Ontario, Kate Pace-Lindsay started skiing at two and began racing at five. She raced for the North Bay Ski Racers, the North Ontario Division and the Ontario Ski Team before qualifying for Canada’s National Women’s Alpine Team in 1988, remaining on the team until her retirement in 1998.

Over nine seasons at the top international level, Kate competed 64 times on the FIS World Cup circuit in super-G and downhill, finishing in the top 10 on 15 occasions. She also raced at three world championships — Morioka Shizukuishi, Japan (1993), Sierra Nevada, Spain (1996) and Sestriere, Italy (1997) — and represented Canada at the 1994 Olympic Winter Games in Lillehammer and the 1998 Games in Nagano.

In national and North American competition, Kate earned six gold or silver medals at the Canadian Championships and seven medals in Nor-Am Cup and U.S. National Championship events. She also captured multiple Ontario and Canadian junior titles, was twice Canadian Juvenile Champion and claimed medals at virtually every level of domestic racing.

Her career highlight came in 1993, when she won gold in the downhill at the FIS World Ski Championships in Morioka, Japan. That same season she captured three World Cup victories, reached No. 1 in the World Cup downhill standings and was named Canadian Female Athlete of the Year, Canadian Press Athlete of the Year, Ontario Athlete of the Year and Canadian Skier of the Year.

Kate received the Governor General’s Canada Medal 125, was inducted into the North Bay Sports Hall of Fame and was awarded the United States Air Force Achievement Award twice. She remains a symbol of perseverance and excellence for Canadian ski racing.
