William B. Schreiber

William Schreiber was born in Montreal in 1926. His love of skiing began at age 14 on the slopes of Mount Royal in the heart of the city. In 1963, following a serious ski accident, Bill was inspired to join the Canadian Ski Patrol (CSP). Over the ensuing 56 years, the “Patrol” became the focus of his personal passion and commitment.

Bill became a highly dedicated member of his local CSP where he patrolled ski hills in the Laurentian Mountains through any weather or conditions from season opening to the closing day. Bill earned his CSP First Aid Instructor license in 1965, Toboggan Handling Instructor in 1966 and in 1970 was awarded the CSP Leon Blauer Trophy for Outstanding Leadership. And in 1989, Bill won the Patroller of the Year award.

His leadership in ski patrol activities was exceptional, whether through annual first aid training, acting as a first responder to the injured, offering directions to visitors, team building or fundraising. For more than 40 years his business donated cotton bandages and slings to over 500 ski patrollers at 21 ski areas, saving the CSP many thousands of dollars.

Bill was active in the recruitment of new CSP members. In 1975, Bill organized the Decagon Club for Laurentian Zone Ski Patrollers for patrollers with over 10 years’ experience. The mission of the club is to encourage member retention and mentorship. Bill was voted president of the club for life by its members.

For over five decades, Bill Schreiber has been passionately devoted to the advancement of the Canadian Ski Patrol, an organization committed to the promotion of skiing as a safe and healthy sport for all Canadians. His leadership and volunteer dedication to ski patrol activities are exemplary in the world of Canadian skiing.
